Q: Why does my new Guardian system beep after I have set it up?
A: There is a default buzzer when the DVR is not connected to the internet/LAN.
Update your firmware using the 2017-01-09 version. Download the file to a 2.0 USB flash drive, insert into the rear USB marked “USB 2.0”, and restart your DVR. Upon startup, you should see the words “Upgrading” on the monitor screen.
To disable this, follow these instructions:
Settings > Basic > Alarms > Other Alarms > Drop down list to “Disconnect” > Turn off the “Buzzer” option by deselecting the checkbox > Exit
Q: I lost my administrator password. How do I reset it?
A: For security purposes, so that others cannot access your DVR/NVR with a default password, you must call customer care to enable your system to be reset.
Q: Which mobile application should I use to view my DVR/NVR remotely?
A: The Uniden ProHD application should be used from Apple/Android/Amazon stores. However, during fall 2016, the application will be updated to “Guardian” and will have new features and an updated user experience.
Q: I have my security system setup, but I cannot view remotely on my phone or tablet.
A: Check these items for troubleshooting:
• Ensure you have internet connectivity to the DVR/NVR.
• Be sure the ethernet cable plugged into the DVR/NVR.
• Be sure there is a green flashing light where the ethernet cable plugs into the DVR/NVR. If not, then you most likely do
not have connectivity to your network.
If you do have internet connectivity, you may need to setup additional settings in your router like Port Forwarding. Please see the Help Documents section specifically the Port Forwarding document.
Q: Do I need any special hardware to have audio or Pan/Tilt/Zoom capabilities?
A: Yes, cameras do not come with audio. Additional microphone and speakers would need to be purchased. These are not Uniden specific and use standard audio in/out. PTZ cameras are special cameras that have motorized cameras that can be moved to see where you want both by DVR/NVR and remotely on the app.
Q: What is the procedure for updating the firmware for my DVR/NVR?
A: First, ensure you are downloading the correct firmware for your system. Uniden has 3 series of wired DVR/NVR. UDVR/UNVR series and the Guardian B & G series.
1. Download the firmware to a USB2.0 compatible flash drive.
2. Insert the flash drive into the “rear” USB2.0 slot of the DVR.
3. Restart your DVR/NVR.
4. The screen should say “Updating” instead of the Uniden logo. When completed, the system will reboot itself.
Q: How do I backup video(s) off my DVR/NVR?
A: To backup videos, you can connect a flash drive or USB external HDD to the front of the DVR or back USB2.0 port.
1. Open the main menu > Backup
2. Choose the events you want to back up or all events.
3. Click backup.
4. For many events, or all, this process will take some time and storage capacity. Ensure you have enough storage for the backup before proceeding.
Q: PTZ will not pan, tilt, or zoom.
A: Uniden provides your PTZ with a simple setup. You do not have to manually set the DIP switchtes in the camera if connecting to the PTZ camera to a Guardian DVR system.
Follow these steps when setting your PTZ camera up.
1. Physically plug the PTZ BNC connector into channel 1. The camera automatically comes programmed to "Address 1", which corresponds to channel 1.
2. If you have a need to plug the PTZ camera into another channel, follow these steps to change the "Address" of the camera in the DVR settings.
○ IMPORTANT: You can set your PTZ camera’s address in the admin menu of your DVR. Go to Main Menu > Setup > PTZ.
○ You will see two tabs: Serial Port and Advanced.
○ Under Serial Port, choose the "Channel" you have the PTZ camera physically plugged into. Change the "Address" to "1". Then change Channel 1 address to the channel number the PTZ camera is physically plugged into.
- EXAMPLE: You have plugged your PTZ camera into channel 4 of your DVR. It is not doing anything when you press the PTZ controls.
- You go to PTZ settings and change channel 4's address to "1" and change channel 1's address to "4". This sets the address of the camera (which is set internally in the camera) to match the electronic address of the DVR.
- Hit save. Test the PTZ controls and ensure that you have chosen the physical channel the camera is plugged into when you bring up the PTZ control screen.
Q: What PTZ protocols are supported?
A: Pelco-D & Pelco-P are popular PTZ (Pan / Tilt / Zoom) camera control protocols used in the CCTV industry. Uniden PTZ outdoor cameras support the following protocols: Pelco - D Pelco - P
Q:Why is my DVR beeping after I setup?
A: The G6 series has a default setting that requires it to have internet access, or the LAN access warning will go off.
You can perform the following to turn off the alarm:
Settings > Basic > Alarms > Other Alarms > Drop down list to “Disconnect” > Turn off the “Buzzer” option by deselecting the checkbox > Exit
Q: How do I backup a video file?
A: Backups can be made of just one event, an entire day, or an entire HDD.
On the UDVR45x4, 85x4, 85x8, and G6/G7 series DVRs, you will insert a FAT32 formatted USB flash drive into either the front USB port or the rear marked USB2.0. (Do not use the mouse USB port)

2. Choose the date you want to back up in the calendar and click search.
3. Select the events / channels you want to back up.
4. Once your selections have been completed, click the "Backup" button.
5. Depending on the amount of data needed to back up, the process will take some time.

You can also plug in an external HDD to the USB port to backup larger amounts of data.

Q: There is no video coming from HDMI connection.
A: Troubleshooting:
1. Ensure the device you are plugged into (TV / Monitor) is set to the correct HDMI input.
2. If #1 is successful, try connecting a VGA cable to a monitor to see if the DVR is producing any signal using VGA.
3. If #2 is unsuccessful, your unit should be sent in for repair.
