Step 4. Next, you will be presented with the update tool itself. Proceed by plugging in your radar via the provided USB cable that came with your unit. After your computer recognizes the USB, select the tab that says “UPDATE”.

In the event that your device is not being recognized by the tool check the following information:

1. Ensure you are using either the cable that was provided with the unit, or a known data cable applicable for your radar detector.

2. Check your devices drivers to be sure you have the latest version of the driver applied to your PC. You can find this information via the start menu and typing "Updates" in the search bar and pressing enter.

Following this, you will be presented with an update screen and an option that says, "Advanced Options", which you will need to select.

After this look for the option labeled "Optional Updates", which is where you can find your updates for USB drivers if available.

3. Another possibility is that the device is being detected by the incorrect COM Port on your PC, of which can be changed by going to your device manager, finding the line labeled "Ports", and then right clicking on the one labeled "Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge (COM)" and select properties. Under the properties section, go to "Advanced" and at the bottom of the screen that displays, you'll find the Com Port Number. Changing the number may aide in resolving the connection issue, as the tool may be selecting the wrong comport to read from when using the software.

Note: The display on the radar will not light up during this process as this port is strictly for data transfers. You do not need to provide power to the RJ11 port on the unit during updates. Doing so may result in potential damage to the unit.
