Where to Find the DFR Tool Download
The download can be found at: Uniden Support - Downloads and Manuals by entering your model number and pressing enter.
On the DFR7 page you will be presented with a few different options. The specific file you are looking for will be titled "DFR7_Firmware_Updater.zip". Download the files and run the set-up wizard labeled "DFR7FWUpdateManager.exe" for the firmware update tool and "DFR VMUpdateManagerv1.00.exe" for the voice module update tool until you are presented with the launcher shown in step 1 of the next section.
Updating the DFR7's firmware and voice memory with unit connected to a PC
Step 1. Open the tool launcher and wait for the splash screen to be presented.
Step 2. From Uniden's Support page for the DFR7 (here) download the most recent firmware available. Under the description tab, it will specify what the file type is (database or firmware) as well as the version. Once downloaded, connect your radar to the USB port (Note: Do not use the power cable during this process, as it can cause damage. Only use the USB update cable!)
Step 3. Once you have the firmware files downloaded and the tool has been launched, you can now press the "Firmware file" box to select the file you downloaded. Now press start, during this update you'll see the progress via the blue progress bar.
4. Lastly, once the update is complete, you will have a notification that comes up saying "Success Download!". Acknowledge it and close the tool. Disconnect the unit from your PC and check the devices menu to ensure that the update applied correctly.

On your model's page you will be presented with a few different options. The specific file you are looking for will be titled "SW_Download_Tool_Vxxx.zip". Download the file and run the set-up wizard until you are presented with the launcher shown in step 1 of the next section.
Step 1. Open the tool launcher and wait for the splash screen to be presented.
Note: In some cases, the "Auto Connect" box in the upper left of the tool may come checked by default. If you see that your box is check marked, uncheck it and proceed to step 2.
Step 2. Attempt to read current version. It will attempt to read with no success.
Step 3. Press the “Start Download” button. Since there is a unit connected, it will open your file explorer for you to select the most recent data.
Step 4. Once data is selected, press “Start download”, and the progress bar will begin to move.
Step 5. Once the download is complete, you will see the following prompt presented saying that it is finished. Press “OK” to close this prompt.
Step 6. Despite pressing “Read Version”, it still will not display a version. When the unit is powered on (and disconnected from the PC), the database will show the file just downloaded to the unit.
